Paddlesports Instructor Training

This is a British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Course. On successful completion, candidates will gain the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor qualification in their chosen discipline – SUP, Kayak, Canoe or Sit on Top. In advance of this course candidates must have completed Foundation Safety and Rescue Training. In addition, candidates must complete an online coach registration.

Training on key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment. These skills then form the foundations for safety and rescue throughout British Canoeing awards.

Sailing and Windsurf Instructor Training

This is a 2 day course.

Pre-requisites: ability to demonstrate a high level of seamanship skills

A pre-requisite before commencing the Dinghy Instructor course, this will be a day of training and getting used to the boats followed by the assessment on the second day which is taken by one of our Coach Assessors and will test all of your personal sailing skills. This is a 5-day course

Pre-requisites: Pre-entry assessment completed by an RYA Coach Assessor; Powerboat Level 2; Valid first aid certificate; RYA Safe & Fun Safeguarding Course; RYA membership.  You are also required to sign a Health Declaration and the RYA Instructor Code of Conduct.

Our very popular Dinghy Instructor course teaches you the RYA method, the structure of the RYA and how to teach sailing. The course is run by an RYA Coach Assessor and is moderated on the last day by a second RYA Coach Assessor.

This is a 2-day course

Pre-requisites: RYA Dinghy Instructor

Already an experienced instructor, have good sailing techniques and confident in using performance boats? This course will help you develop the skills required to teach the RYA Performance Sailing course.

This is an endorsement for those that have already attended a Dinghy or Keelboat Instructor, run over two days by RYA Coach/Assessors, candidate must demonstrate their sailing skills and teaching techniques. Candidates will be assessed on a continuous basis afloat and on successful completion you will receive the RYA Multihull Instructor Endorsement.

This is a 2-day course

Pre-requisites: RYA Dinghy Instructor

Already have your dinghy instructor certificate, but want to teach in keelboats? Then this course is ideal. Run over two days by RYA Coach/Assessors, candidates must demonstrate their sailing skills and teaching techniques in keelboats. Candidates will be assessed on a continuous basis afloat and on successful completion you will receive an RYA Keelboat Instructor Endorsement.

This is a 5-day course

Pre-requisites: Intermediate non-planing windsurf certificate or relevant experience, Powerboat Level 2, Valid first aid certificate, RYA Safe and Fun (online course), RYA Membership

Our very popular Windsurf Instructor course teaches you the RYA method, the structure of the RYA and how to teach windsurfing. The course is run by an RYA Windsurf Trainer and is moderated on the last day by a second RYA Trainer.

This is a 4-day course run over 2 weekends at the Centre, however all bookings to made directly with RYA Scotland email contacts below

Pre-requisites: Worked at least 2 seasons part time or 1 season full time as an RYA Instructor; RYA Safety Boat certificate; valid First Aid certificate; RYA Safe & Fun Safeguarding Course; have a recommendation from a Principal of a sailing school.

This course covers preparation and delivery of sessions, course and centre management, powerboat handling in a teaching environment, RYA Sailing Schemes and the role of a Senior Instructor. Students will be assessed on a continual basis.

Powerboat Instructor Training

This is a half-day assessment

Pre-requisites: be able to demonstrate a high level of all skills required at RYA Powerboat Level 2

A pre-requisite before commencing the Powerboat Instructor course, this assessment is taken by one of our powerboat trainers, and will test all of your personal powerboating skills. For more information please see the G19 Coaching Handbook, available on request.

2023 Dates:  24 February, 16 June, 20 October
Cost: £99

This is a 3-day course

Pre-requisites: Minimum of five seasons powerboating experience (this can be reduced to one season if powerboating is part of your full time job); Pre-entry assessment completed by an RYA Powerboat Trainer; valid First Aid certificate; RYA membership. You are also required to sign a Health Declaration and the RYA Instructor Code of Conduct.

This course trains you in the various techniques and teaching methods required to instruct the RYA Level 1 and 2 syllabus. The first two days will follow intensive training followed by a moderation on the third day. All students will run a number of practice sessions to develop their personal skills and are given help in identifying areas to progress in.

This is a 2-day course

Pre-requisites: valid RYA Powerboat Instructor certificate

For experienced instructors with excellent personal boat handling and navigational skills, this course trains you in the various techniques and teaching methods required to instruct the Intermediate and Advanced courses.
